Maruti Suzuki e Vitara – Maruti’s First Electric SUV for India
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara marks a historic step for Maruti Suzuki as it enters the electric vehicle segment in India. Known for its fuel-efficient petrol cars, the company has finally launched its first all-electric SUV, aiming to compete in the rapidly growing EV market. The e Vitara combines modern design, advanced technology, and a long driving range, making it a strong contender in the electric SUV segment.
The electric SUV was unveiled in India in late 2025, and sales began in January 2026 through Maruti Suzuki’s premium Nexa dealerships. It is positioned as a global EV model and is manufactured at the company’s Gujarat plant, from where it will also be exported to several international markets.

Modern Design and Exterior
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara breaks away from the conservative styling of the Grand Vitara. It features a “High-Tech & Adventure” design theme:
- Exterior: A grille-less front fascia with distinctive Y-shaped LED DRLs, muscular wheel arches, and thick side cladding that gives it a chunky, rugged stance.
- Dimensions: It measures roughly 4,275mm in length with a massive 2,700mm wheelbase, ensuring a spacious cabin despite its compact footprint.
- Wheels: It sits high on 18-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels that help reduce drag and improve range.
Battery, Range and Performance
One of the biggest highlights of the e Vitara is its impressive electric powertrain. The SUV is offered with two battery options – 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The larger battery pack can deliver a driving range of up to around 543 km (ARAI-certified) on a single charge, making it one of the longest-range EVs in its segment.

Interior and Features
Inside the cabin, the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara offers a premium and technology-rich interior. The SUV features a 10.1-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with a 10.25-inch digital instrument cluster. It supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, giving drivers seamless connectivity. Other features include ventilated seats, wireless charging, a panoramic sunroof, and a 360-degree camera for easier parking.
In terms of safety and driver assistance, the e Vitara also comes with Level-2 ADAS, providing features such as adaptive cruise control, lane assist, and collision prevention technologies.

Safety and driver assistance
Safety has been a major focus: the e Vitara offers six airbags plus a driver knee airbag, ESP, ISOFIX child‑seat mounts, TPMS, hill‑hold and hill‑descent control, and a 360‑degree camera on top trims.
It also comes with Level 2 ADAS (including lane departure warning, adaptive cruise control, high‑beam assist and autonomous emergency braking) and has secured a strong crash‑test rating under Bharat NCAP, with reports of a 5‑star score.

Price and Ownership Model
The Maruti Suzuki e Vitara starts at around ₹10.99 lakh (ex-showroom) under the Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model, where customers pay separately for battery usage based on kilometres driven. This innovative approach reduces the upfront cost of the EV and makes electric mobility more affordable for buyers. https://www.marutisuzuki.com/
